OUR PARTNERS
We partner with the WCED as well as funders
and other education service providers.
WCED
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is committed to providing quality education in all public schools. The WCED have to work innovatively with all schools and partners in government, the private sector and civil society to ensure that we use all available resources to improve access to quality education, especially in our poorest communities.
As one of a number of innovations aimed at improving education quality, the WCED has partnered with a group of funder foundations to launch a new pilot: the Collaboration Schools Pilot Programme.

The Collaboration Schools Pilot Programme
Since December 2016, we have partnered with the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) to support no-fee public schools as part of the Collaboration Schools Pilot Programme.
The introduction of this programme has been an exciting initiative in partnership with civil society, a group of funders and the WCED.
The Collaboration Schools pilot programme seeks to:
- improve the quality of education at public schools;
- demonstrate effective models of partnerships in education;
- strengthen public school governance and accountability;
- develop educators; and
- implement interventions aimed at the improvement of the quality of public education for learners from low income communities.
As a school operating partner, Acorn Education provides support to schools to help them achieve and sustain high quality education and is accountable to the WCED, learners, parents and funders for delivering promised outcomes.
